Mitchell Starc took six wickets for nine runs and Scott Boland claimed a hat-trick as Australia dismissed the West Indies for 27 — the second-lowest total ever in Test cricket — to win the third Test by 176 runs on Monday.
The West Indies missed the lowest score in Test cricket by one run, due to a misfield.
Starc’s first 15 balls delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in test history, and his 15th five-wicket innings in tests. The tall left-arm paceman took a wicket with the first ball of the West Indies’ second innings and three wickets in that first over — a triple-wicket maiden.
Earlier, the Windies stormed back into contention on Monday, reducing the visitors to 99/6 at stumps after trailing by 82 runs in the first innings. Shamar Joseph (2/26) and Alzarri Joseph (5/19) led a pace assault, sharing five wickets and unsettling the Oz top order. Green and Cummins battled through a testing final session to take Australia’s lead to 181.
The hosts collapsed to 143 in reply to Australia’s 225, with Scott Boland starring with 3/34. With 15 wickets falling on a dramatic day, the match still has a lot of thrills to offer.
