Pathum Nissanka's unbeaten 146 helped Sri Lanka move into a commanding position in the second Test against Bangladesh.

The opener finished day two alongside nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya (five not out) with Sri Lanka on 290-2, ahead of the visitors by 43 runs.

Bangladesh started the day's play eight wickets down, and they lost their final two in the opening hour.

Ebadot Hossain (eight) and Taijul Islam (33) were dismissed by Asitha Fernando (3-51) and Sonal Dinusha (3-22) respectively.

Nissanka and Lahiru Udara (40) put on an opening stand of 88 before the latter was trapped lbw by Islam (1-90).

However, Dinesh Chandimal (93) formed a 194-run partnership alongside Nissanka to give Sri Lanka the lead in the match. However, he fell just short of his 17th Test hundred after a mistimed reverse sweep when facing Nayeem Hasan (1-45).

Jayasuriya survived a late lbw appeal as Sri Lanka will look to build on their lead on day three.

Data Debrief: Nissanka sets the tone

It was Nissanka’s 187 in the first innings of the first Test that allowed Sri Lanka to recover and draw that match, and the opener is leading the way again with the bat.

He has scored the joint-most Test centuries in the last 12 months as an opening batsman, with three, alongside England's Ben Duckett. However, Nissanka has done this in 10 fewer innings.

Nissanka is hitting big, too. He has struck 18 fours so far in this Test, going at a strike rate of 61.3.
