A man celebrating his birthday was stabbed to death, and his friend was left in critical condition following a road rage incident in East Delhi's Ghazipur area on Wednesday night.

The victim, identified as Vikas, was with his friend Sumit in a car near a liquor shop in the Paper Market area.

The altercation began when a man on a two-wheeler brushed past their vehicle. According to NDTV, a heated argument broke out when Vikas confronted the rider.

The verbal dispute quickly turned violent after the rider called six of his friends to join him in the spat. The group of men arrived with iron rods and attacked Vikas and Sumit brutally.

The accused reportedly stabbed both men several times before fleeing the scene.

NDTV reported that Vikas died on the spot. Sumit was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and was later transferred to a private hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Reportedly, the family revealed that Vikas, a resident of Faridabad, was scheduled to get married soon. Both he and Sumit worked together at a private insurance company in Noida.

"He left for work in the morning," Vikas's mother said. "He said he would spend the night with his friends and return home in the morning."

A friend of Sumit's recounted what he was told: "He told us they were dragged to a lane and thrashed by the accused."

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
