US and Iran will are expected to begin again their talks which were disrupted by the 12-day war between Iran and Israel from June 13 to June 25, said US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Speaking at the 2025 NATO summit, Trump said “I’ll tell you what, we’re going to talk with them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement, I don’t know.”
Despite taking credit for brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Trump appeared to not be enthusiastic about renewing negotiations with the Islamic Republic. He attributed the US airstrikes for having significantly crippled Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
“The way I look at it, they fought, the war is done,” he said.
While there has been no confirmation of the resumption of talks from Iran, US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff had earlier said that both direct and indirect communications have been ongoing between Washington and Tehran.
Trump, who helped broker the ceasefire that began on Tuesday, the 12th day of the war, was attending the NATO summit. He told reporters that things were going “very well," and stated that Iran was "not going to have a bomb and they’re not going to enrich."
