The Golden State Valkyries announced Friday that All-Star forward Kayla Thornton underwent surgery on her right knee and will miss the remainder of the WNBA season.

Thornton, the Valkyries' leading scorer and the first All-Star in the expansion team's young history, injured her knee in practice earlier this week. The 10-year veteran had just participated in her first WNBA All-Star Game last Saturday in 온라인카지노apolis as a member of the team captained by 온라인카지노a Fever star Caitlin Clark.

The 32-year-old was in the midst of her best season, as she was averaging team and career highs in scoring (14.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) while helping the Valkyries become a surprise contender for a play-off spot in their debut campaign.

Golden State currently sits ninth in the league standings at 10-12, a half-game behind the Washington Mystics for the eighth and final play-off seed.

Prior to being selected by the Valkyries in December's expansion draft, Thornton was a key reserve for the 2024 league champion New York Liberty.

Thornton entered the WNBA with Washington in 2015 as an undrafted free agent and spent one season with the Mystics before a six-year run with the Dallas Wings from 2017-22. She was traded to the Liberty in January 2023 and played two seasons in New York before being picked in the expansion draft.

In 296 career games, Thornton has averaged 7.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists.
