F1: Lewis Hamilton Eyes 2026 Ferrari With His 'DNA' After Admitting 'This Is Not The Car I Want'

Lewis Hamilton believes the changes he wants to make to Ferrari’s car can help the team return to the front of the grid.

The seven-time world champion has struggled for consistency throughout his debut campaign with Ferrari after leaving Mercedes.

He is yet to record a single podium at the halfway stage of the season, despite Ferrari sitting second in the constructors' standings.

The Scuderia have less than half the points total of leaders McLaren, though, with 222 to the leaders' 460, and they are yet to record a race win.

Hamilton has been outperformed by his team-mate Charles Leclerc, who has achieved four podium finishes, and the Monegasque driver sits one place above him in the driver's standings.

Ahead of the British Grand Prix, where he finished fourth, failing to achieve a podium for the 13th successive race, Hamilton revealed he is working with Ferrari chassis technical director Loic Serra on future upgrades to the SF-25.

"This year with this car, we have lots of different tools and ways in which we can set the car up," Hamilton said.

"Charles has been here for a long time, and he's been a part of evolving and developing this car, and he's very accustomed to it.

"He's found one way which the car works. I've tried all the other directions that should work but they just don't, for whatever reason.

"And I've slowly migrated to the place where Charles does run the car, and last week our pace was the closest it's been.

"It's still tough. It's a tough balance to drive and it's not a comfortable one. It's not one that I want to have in the future.

"So, I'm working with Loic and all the guys at the factory to make sure that the next car will have some of my DNA, and hopefully we'll be able to get some of the characteristics that I'm hoping to have in it next year."

Despite showing early promise by qualifying on pole and winning the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix in March, Hamilton has since struggled to adjust, with his best efforts being three fourth-place finishes.

Most recently at Silverstone, Hamilton struggled to match the pace of Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg, who achieved his first-ever podium finish in his 239th race – denying Hamilton a 13th consecutive Silverstone podium in the process.

Hamilton felt he struggled to control the car in wet conditions but was optimistic that lessons could be learnt for 2026.

"I think there's a lot of positives," he told Sky Sports. "On a race like that, while it's not great, you can download a lot.

"I feel like I know how to explain to the team what I don't want built into next year's car. What we have right now makes it so difficult to drive, particularly in those conditions."

The Formula One season resumes on July 25 at Spa, with practice sessions ahead of that weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.
