PSG 4-0 Inter Miami Highlights, FIFA Club World Cup Rd Of 16: Lionel Messi And Co Knocked Out After First-Half Rout

French titans Paris Saint-Germain meet the Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami for a place in the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals. The big news is that Lionel Messi is in Inter Miami's starting XI against the Champions League winners. Here is Herons' line-up:

Inter Miami began their Group A campaign with a 0-0 draw against Al Ahly, before beating Porto 2-1 and holding Palmeiras 2-2. They led the Brazilian club 2-0 at one point and had they won, would have avoided PSG by topping the group. Messi's men finished second instead with five points, behind Palmeiras on goal difference.

And the Parisians are off! Joao Neves heads in Vitinha's cross in the sixth minute and Inter Miami are pushed on the backfoot early. This could set the tone for the remainder of the match, unless Messi Magic prevails alongside his trusted partner Luis Suarez.

Inter Miami have their best run of play in the first 25 minutes, as Segovia passes it on to Allende and the latter's shot is deflected to safety by the Parisian defence. It was all PSG before that, and perhaps this is the kind of move Messi's men needed.

PSG have had 70 per cent possession so far and seem to be facing no troubles at all. A goal for Inter Miami could really spice up this contest but where will it come from? That remains the question.

Neves at it again! PSG are putting up an exhibition with surgically precise passing and clinical finishing in the final third. The second goal comes in the 37th minute and the Parisians are well on top.

As if Neves' brace wasn't enough, Inter Miami concede a third via an own goal from Tomas Aviles. The substitute inadvertently nudges the ball past his keeper Ustari in the 44th minute and PSG are virtually through to the quarters.

Oh, well. It's that kind of a night. Achraf Hakimi revels in PSG's party moments before the half-time whistle, putting the ball in the back of the net in the third minute of added time. His initial shot had been deflected and he fires it through at second go.

Lionel Messi must be mortified and needs to find a way to make this stop in the second half.

The second half gets underway at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Inter Miami now attacking, if you can call it that, from left to right and PSG from right to left. The result appears to be a foregone conclusion from here. Can Lionel Messi's men show some resolve and reduce the deficit?

Genius from Messi! The talismanic Inter Miami captain produces a magical touch off his left foot, the type which makes him who he is, and sets it up for Luis Suarez, who is unable to finish favourably. The Herons are now showing signs of a fightback.

After a brief Miami spell, the Parisians are back at it. They are creating dangerous chances again and it takes an alert Ustari to deny Bradley Barcola in the 57th minute. This leads to a corner, though nothing comes of it.

Joao Neves, who scored the first two goals that began the PSG onslaught, is substituted in the 61st minute. In comes the red-hot forward Ousmane Dembele. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi gets his first shot on the Parisians' goal and custodian Gianluigi Donnarumma finally has something to do.

More attempts from the Herons, who are frantically searching for their first goal. But the PSG defence is far too well organized to let a dangerous ball slip through. Still over 20 minutes to go in the game for a lapse to occur, however.

Luis Suarez makes a premature leap to head an aerial ball while challenging Willian Pacho. The referee deems it a foul and awards a free-kick to PSG, leaving the 38-year-old incensed. he says something to the ref and earns a yellow card in return.  

Lionel Messi tries again, this time with the header. His connection is well directed and forces Donnarumma to make a diving save.

Luis Suarez is brought down very close to the PSG box and up steps captain Lionel Messi for the free-kick. The crowd was expecting him to conjure one of his trademark curlers into the top corner but the setpiece sadly doesn't yield much, as the shot slams into the Parisians' defence in the 88th minute.

And that's that. After two minutes of added time, the referee blows the full-time whistle. PSG thrash Inter Miami 4-0 in Atlanta to ease into the quarter-finals. The Herons tried to make amends in the second half, which went goalless, but it was always a losing battle after the first-half rout they were handed.
