Sri Lanka delivered a crushing innings and 78-run defeat to Bangladesh early on Saturday, the fourth day of the second Test between the two teams. Just some hours back in Barbados, Australia had earned a thumping 159-run win over West Indies in an exciting game.

The wins were the first of both Australia and Sri Lanka in the new World Test Championship cycle which will go on from 2025 till 2027. Sri Lanka have played two games so far in this new cycle while Australia earned their first win right in their first game.

Australia and England are currently the joint-toppers with wins in their only game that they have played. Sri Lanka are third with a win and draw. Sri Lanka has more points than both England and Australia but they are still third and WTC rankings are based on the percentage of points won out of the total points on offer.

India lost to England in their first match of the current WTC cycle and still have not been able to win a point. They will be ranked once they start earning points.

Australia vs West Indies 1st Test

West Indies had bowled out Australia for 180 and taken a 10-run lead. However, Australia turned the game in the second innings and set up a 301- run target for West Indies but the Caribbean side was bowled out for only 141. Australia, thus, won the match by 159 runs.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

After being held for a draw in the opening Test, Sri Lanka bounced back to give a solid performance in the second game. They bowled out Bangladesh for just 247 in the first innings and then plundered 458 runs in their turn to bat. Bangladesh were wrapped up for only 133 and Sri Lanka won the match by an innings and 78 runs.
