Harmanpreet Kaur-led India take on Nat Sciver-Brunt’s England in a five-match T20I series starting Saturday, June 28, a crucial build-up to next year’s T20 World Cup in the UK. Shafali Verma returns to the squad, while fresh faces Kranti Goud, Sree Charani, and Sayali Satghare add youthful energy. Sneh Rana is also back for the first time since February 2023.

However, India will be without Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar due to injuries. With England strong at home and both sides eyeing early momentum, this series is set to offer more than just warm-ups, it’s a statement-making opportunity.

The fielder is left stranded as the ball races away to the boundary. Four runs to the visitors, pure timing and intent from Harleen.

Capsey tosses one up outside off, and Harleen Deol steps out but can’t quite get to the pitch of it. She miscues the heave, sending the ball skyward toward point, and Wyatt-Hodge spills what should have been a straightforward catch. A let-off for Harleen, who scrambles through for a quick single.

Em Arlott bowls, and Mandhana flicks it gently to backward square leg for three runs. The partnership between Mandhana and Harleen Deol continues to build steadily, adding crucial runs as India look to accelerate.

Em Arlott tosses up a slower delivery, and Harleen Deol steps out once more, aiming to send it soaring over the boundary. But her bottom hand slips on the bat, slicing the ball off to mid-off. It races past the fielder, allowing her to scamper two runs. A productive over for India, who manage 14 runs off it.

She moves across the crease and expertly whips the ball to the leg side, once again taking advantage of the conditions and hitting with the wind. The shot races away through backward square for another boundary.

Lauren Filer bowls a full delivery outside off, but Mandhana is unfazed. She carefully lines up the ball and sends it soaring over extra cover for four runs. Once again, Mandhana is in complete control, batting with the confidence and grace of a dream innings.

Smriti Mandhana reaches her maiden T20 International century! Stepping out with authority, she drives powerfully over the top, sending the ball past the deep sweeper. This elegant boundary marks her 14th four and comes alongside three towering sixes. It took just 51 balls to cross the three-figure mark, a superb innings from the stand-in captain, leading India with class and confidence.

Smith delivers a full, tossed-up ball on the leg side. Richa Ghosh drops to one knee and expertly gets her bat to the sweep shot, guiding it past the fielders to race away for four runs to fine leg.

Bell bowls a short delivery, and Mandhana swiftly pulls it towards deep mid-wicket, easily collecting a single.

Ghosh’s brief innings comes to an end as she skies one to wide long-off. Bell strikes again, tempting her with a slower ball, and Ghosh attempts a lofted shot but slices it straight into the hands of Dunkley. The catch is held comfortably, and the momentum shifts back to England.

Bell bowls a shortish delivery from around the wicket, and Mandhana deftly guides it through mid-wicket for a single, cleverly retaining the strike for the next ball.

Arlott bowls a full delivery on the pads, and Mandhana dispatches it on the bounce to deep midwicket for a quick single. A tidy over from Arlott, conceding just five runs. But with the chase progressing, is it too little, too late?

Smriti Mandhana’s incredible innings comes to an end as she miscues a shot into the off side, falling to Ecclestone’s bowling. Walking off to a standing ovation, Mandhana’s dismissal follows a better-length delivery that perhaps gripped a little more, forcing her lofted attempt over the covers to loop straight to a fielder on the edge of the circle.

It was a spectacular knock, her maiden T20I century, and a true captain’s innings, especially after India were put in to bat. Mandhana finished with 112 runs off 62 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes, at a strike rate of 180.64.

India posted a commanding total after being put in to bat, making full use of a flat track at Trent Bridge. While Shafali Verma got off to a quick start, it was Smriti Mandhana who stole the show with a magnificent knock.

Harleen Deol, promoted to No. 3, supported her well as the pair added 94 runs, keeping England under pressure. Mandhana was in sublime touch, mixing elegance with aggression to bring up her maiden T20I hundred in just 51 balls. She eventually fell for 112 off 62, an innings laced with 15 fours and 3 sixes.

Lauren Bell was the standout bowler for England with three wickets, but the rest of the attack had no answers to India’s onslaught.

Sophia Dunkley and Maia Bouchier-Wyatt-Hodge stride out to open England’s chase, with Dunkley taking first strike. Amanjot Kaur has the new ball in hand, and she makes an immediate impact.

Just five balls into the innings, she bangs one in short and wide outside off. Dunkley throws her hands at it, looking to cut, but only manages a thick edge. It flies quickly to the right of Richa Ghosh behind the stumps, but the keeper reacts brilliantly, diving across to take a sharp catch.

A huge early breakthrough for India, and Amanjot delivers in her very first over. Dunkley departs for 7 off 4 balls, with one boundary to her name.

Deepti Sharma joins the attack and strikes straight away, India are all over England now. She tosses one up teasingly, drawing Wyatt-Hodge into a loose shot. The batter goes for a drive but doesn’t get the elevation or timing, sending it straight to Harleen Deol at cover.

Harleen makes no mistake with the catch, and England lose their second wicket in no time. Wyatt-Hodge walks back for a duck off just 3 deliveries, and India tighten their grip on the match.

Charani floats it wide outside off, and Beaumont reaches out to swat it into the point region for a quick single.

That’s a strange one, and a gift India won’t mind at all. Radha Yadav gets the ball to turn sharply past Amy Jones’ outside edge as she pushes forward in defence. Richa Ghosh fumbles the take, but Jones, caught off balance and realising her back leg wasn’t getting back in time, doesn’t even try to drag her bat behind the line.

Ghosh recovers, clasps the ball, and breaks the stumps. Jones just stands there for a moment, then trudges off, knowing she’d given it away. India continue to tighten the screws.

Em Arlott connects sweetly, clean as a whistle! Radha drifts one into the pads, right in the slot, and Arlott doesn’t miss out. She brings the bat down with power and timing, launching it high and handsome over deep mid-wicket. That’s gone all the way! A much-needed six for England, and a confident strike from Arlott.

Tossed up and Ecclestone goes for the slog-sweep, but doesn't get the height. Jemimah Rodrigues at deep mid-wicket takes a clean catch. Ecclestone falls for 1, and India tighten their grip.

Arundhati Reddy starts the over with a short delivery, and Nat Sciver-Brunt makes the most of it, rocking back and pulling it firmly through mid-wicket for four. On the next ball, Reddy floats one up to Lauren Filer, who calmly nudges it into the leg side for a single, rotating the strike.

Massive moment, Nat Sciver-Brunt edges one behind and falls for 66! Charani fires it wide and flat, Sciver-Brunt goes for the slap but gets a faint edge. The appeal was turned down, but India reviewed and got it right. Richa Ghosh takes a sharp catch, and Charani grabs her second. India now one wicket away from a dominant win.

India produced a ruthless all-round display to crush England in their heaviest T20I defeat to date. Missing regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, they were still clinical across departments. Stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana lit up Trent Bridge with a majestic maiden T20I hundred, before 20-year-old debutant N Shree Charani sealed the deal with a stunning 4 for 12. A statement win, and a night to remember for India.

Smriti Mandhana, Player of the Match said, 'It took a long time coming. I had a habit of getting out in the 70s and 80s. Me and my teammates before the series were talking, high time I get a hundred. I was timing the ball well. The way Harleen batted was great. For her to come in and the way she batted, she got the momentum going after the fall of Shafali.'

She added, 'The conversation we had was if we bowl against the wind, we had to bowl it slower. Tried to get Nat off the strike as much as possible. Richa's catch diving across was brilliant. Just the start, we need to keep the momentum and get into good habits.'
