Two bodies have been recovered after nine construction workers went missing in the cloudburst in Silai Band, Uttarkashi district.
The workers were operating on an under-construction hotel building in Silai Band, on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in the Uttarkashi district. The landslides occurring in the area swept away the workers.
Previously, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand tweeted, “ In the tragic incident of a landslide in the Silai Band area of Barkot Tehsil, Uttarkashi, it has been reported that some workers are missing. Teams including SDRF, NDRF and others have reached the sites and are engaging in intensive relief and rescue operations.”
Uttarkashi District Magistrate confirmed that two of the workers' bodies have been found. Rescue teams are still in search of the rest of the missing workers.
Precautions Taken
The Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours until the heavy rainfall alert is ongoing. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shanker Pandey reported on this precautionary move.
He adds, “ I have given instructions to the police and the administration officials to stop the pilgrims in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Vikasnagar.”
The continuous rainfall has led to the Badrinath Highway near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani being blocked. This route is pivotal for pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath. Uttarakhand's Chief Minister has issued a statement warning the public to remain cautious and avoid travelling.
