Police in Ludhiana have found the body of a man stuffed inside a blue drum, wrapped in a plastic sack.

The investigation began was made after residents in the area noticed a foul smell and called the police. The man's neck and legs were found tied with a rope.

According to SHO Kulwant Kaur “The deceased looks like a migrant based on facial features. There are no injury marks on the body as of now, though its condition is bad. The post-mortem will reveal the exact cause and circumstances of death. Many drum companies are being questioned. A large number of migrants live around the crime scene, and we are interrogating them as well,” she was quoted by India Today.

Investigators believe the murder may have been planned. The drum in which the body was found appeared to be brand new, leading police to suspect it was bought just before the killing. They are now questioning 42 drum manufacturing companies in the city.

Police are also looking at CCTV footage from a 5-kilometre area, including from the city, railway stations, and bus stands, to find clues. Officers are questioning migrants who live near the crime scene and tracking suspicious vehicles. The investigation is ongoing.
