A French tourist was allegedly raped by an 온라인카지노 man in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Monday, June 23. The accused is absconding and Rajasthan police have launched a hunt to catch him.
According to police, the accused identified as Siddharth — who was employed at an event management company — was attending the same party as the French tourist in The Greek Farm Cafe and Restro located at Tiger Hill. After the party, the accused engaged in conversation and offered to show her around the city.
According to the complaint launched by the survivor, despite her repeatedly requesting to be dropped at the hotel, the accused drove her to his rented apartment and raped her. As per the complaint, she could not call anyone for help as her phone was out of charge.
"On Sunday evening, some French tourists were at a restaurant called Greek Farm with some employees of an event management company. They had a meal together and also consumed drinks. The survivor has said that she left in a car with one Siddharth, who then took her to his room and sexually assaulted her," said Yogesh Goyal, Udaipur Superintendent of Police.
The woman later admitted herself to a private hospital in Udaipur, after which the hospital reported the assault to the police. "The survivor has undergone a medical examination, and an FIR has been registered. The man is on the run. We are going through footage from the restaurant and the hotel," Udaipur SP added.
The French Embassy in New Delhi had been informed about the incident.
Is India Safe For Foreigners?
The US had issued an advisory dated June 16, asking its citizens to “exercise increased caution in India due to crime and terrorism” while travelling in India. The advisory states, “Rape is one of the fastest-growing crimes in India. Violent crimes, including sexual assault, happen at tourist sites and other locations. Do not travel alone, especially if you are a woman.”
“We demand that the 온라인카지노 government should register its protest and take a stern view of this advisory at the highest level. It is not in good faith, this is not good for our country, and it shows the doublespeak of the US. On one hand, you are issuing advisories against us but nothing on Pakistan," Congress party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said.
US government employees working in India are required to obtain permission prior to travel to most areas in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Odisha. It further mentioned that permission is not required for the capital of these states.
Recent Crimes Against Foreign Women
On April 16, a woman from Lithuania was molested by a man at the Agra Fort. The accused in this case was arrested a day after and has been identified as Mizan, a resident of Haryana's Mewat.
On March 6, two women, an Israeli tourist and an 온라인카지노 homestay operator, were gang-raped near a lake in the city of Hampi, Karnataka. The two women were accompanied by three men who were pushed into the lake before the assault occurred. One of these three men died; his body was recovered two days later. Police have arrested two of the accused.
On March 11, a British woman was allegedly raped by a man who was her social media friend, at a hotel in Delhi. She also accused another man of molesting her in the hotel lift when she went to ask for help. According to the police, both the accused were later taken into custody.
While these are cases where the accused had been taken into custody, data from the National Crime Records Bureau indicates that a significant number of crimes against foreign tourists in India, particularly rape cases, do not reach a conclusion in court.
While the opposition parties are alleging the Bharatiya Janata Party’s foreign policy, the larger picture of such instances is yet to be addressed. Recurrent occurrences can malign India’s global image and pose a significant threat to the billion-dollar tourism industry.
With repeated surfacing of crimes against foreign women and crimes against women at large, the law and order scenario of the country is under questions by foreign governments and media.
