Greetings and welcome to everyone joining us. The knockout stage of the FIFA Club World Cup is upon us, and we kick it off with a face-off between Brazilian rivals Palmeiras and Botafogo. Stay with us for the build-up and live updates.
The match will kick off at 9:30pm IST. The Palmeiras vs Botafogo, FIFA Club World Cup 2025 round of 16 clash will be live streamed on the DAZN platform for free in India. It will not be telecast on any TV channel in the country.
Here is how Palmeiras line up for the do-or-die encounter against Botafogo:
And this is the arsenal with which Botafogo aim to combat their Sao Paulo adversaries tonight:
The two teams stride out to the pitch and shake hands with each other and the match officials. Kick off coming up next.
We are underway in Pennsylvania. Palmeiras attacking from right to left and Botafogo from left to right in the first half.
We have a yellow card in the third minute. Nerves of the big game, perhaps evident as Alexander Barboza crashes into Richard Rios and is booked right away. Palmeiras get a free-kick in a potentially dangerous position and Barboza will miss the next Botafogo match owing to a yellow he had garnered in the group stage.
The first 25 minutes have elapsed and Palmeiras have had the better and far more chances so far. No goal yet, however, and the tide could turn anytime.
Botafogo are handed their second yellow card of the first half in the 35th minute. Alex Telles fouls Allan and Palmeiras earn a free kick on the right wing. Nothing comes of it, however.
It's now the turn of Palmeiras to get their first booking. Gustavo Gomez makes an ill-advised tackle on Allan in the 40th minute and like Alexander Barboza, will miss the next match if the Sao Paulo giants indeed enter the quarter-finals.
Palmeiras very nearly score at the fag end of the first half, as Richard Rios' sizzling long-range shot is deflected into the side netting in the fifth minute of added time. We are goalless after the first period of what has been an evenly matched encounter so far.
The second half gets underway. Palmeiras now attacking from left to right and Botafogo from right to left. Estevao takes a crack at the Rio club's goal early, but custodian John is alert to deny him.
Estevao is threatening to score the opener repeatedly, but is falling short each time. The Brazilian winger netted in the 50th minute but the whistle had gone off before his shot, which meant the goal did not stand. Palmeiras surging ahead with greater attacking intent so far.
We still await the opener in this match. Botafogo miss a chance this time, as Marlon Freitas lines it up for Jefferson Savarino, whose shot goes high and wide in the 70th minute. Meanwhile, Mayke replaces Allan for Palmeiras and Joaquin Correa comes in for Savarino for the Rio side.
Joaquin Piquerez is shown the yellow card for a foul on Artur . That means Piquerez, too, will miss the next match if Palmeiras do make it to the quarters. We are nearing the end of the 90 minutes, meanwhile.
Palmeiras are in the middle of a counter-attack and Paulinho is pulled back by Newton, seemingly deliberately. The referee wastes no time in pulling out a yellow card and the Sao Paulo earn a free kick. They cannot find the breakthrough, however and we are headed to extra time.
Away we go in extra time. There will be two halves of 15 minutes each, and only an outright win will suffice. If the two teams remain deadlocked after, we will have a penalty shootout.
We finally have an opening goal! After 100 minutes of play, Paulinho breaks the deadlock between the sides with a clinical left-footed finish that beats Botafogo goalie John. Palmeiras have the advantage and just need to hold on for 20 or so minutes now.
The whistle goes off to signal the end of the first 15 minutes of extra time. Botafogo need to find an equaliser in the next 15 minutes, or head back home with an extra-time defeat.
And the players are quickly back for the second half. Palmeiras attacking from left right and Botafogo from right to left for this final period.
Gustavo Gomez is handed a second yellow in the 116th minute. He has been ejected and Palmeiras are down to 10 men for the final few minutes of extra time. This is the ideal chance for Botafogo to capitalize.
Palmeiras hold on! The Sao Paulo giants manage a one-man disadvantage late in extra time to emerge victors by a slender but decisive 1-0 margin in Philadelphia. They head into the quarter-finals, where they will meet the winner of the upcoming round of 16 clash between Benfica and Chelsea. As for Botafogo, that's the end of their campaign.
