Tim David propelled Australia to a series-clinching win

Tim David was unsure he would get the opportunity to score a T20I century for Australia, let alone the fastest in the team's history, having returned from injury to make a 37-ball ton in Friday's win over West Indies.

Australia sealed victory in the five-match series with their highest successful chase against the Windies in the format, reaching a target of 215 to take an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Shai Hope's first T20I hundred had looked to put West Indies on course for a consolation victory, but David eclipsed him on his first batting outing since May.

David suffered a hamstring injury while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 온라인카지노 Premier League and missed the playoffs as the franchise won their first title.

He played in the second T20I in this series but was not required to bat in Australia's eight-wicket victory.

But at Werner Park, David finished unbeaten on 102, the same figure as Hope but from 20 fewer balls faced, after Mitchell Marsh (22), Glenn Maxwell (20), Josh Inglis (15) and Cameron Green (11) struggled to make their mark further up the order.

As well as being David's first century in the format for Australia, he registered the fastest 50 (16 balls) and the quickest hundred (37) in the team's history.

"I was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia. It was nice to have a period at home and get my body right," David said at the post-match presentation.

"I didn't think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I'm stoked. The pitch was good with small boundaries, so you have to back your strengths.

"Warner Park is a great place to bat and it was great to have experience here in the CPL. I've spent a lot of time working on power hitting, but now I'm working on my shot selection."

David is the first man to hit a T20I century in fewer than 40 balls for Australia, with Inglis previously holding the record (43 versus Scotland last year).

His knock ranks joint-ninth in the all-time charts, with Estonia's Sahil Chauhan (27 versus Cyprus in June 2024) holding the record.

David was using a bat he acquired in a trade with recently retired West Indies star Andre Russell, during their stint playing together in the Caribbean Premier League last year.

He said: "I've been carrying that Dre Russ bat around for a year and it felt like it was the best time to use it!"

The fourth T20I in the series takes place on Saturday, with the final match set for Monday.
