Vivek Joshi was appointed as an Election Commissioner of India on Monday. As per the law, a Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) or an Election Commissioner (EC) must retire upon turning 65 or after serving a six-year term in the Election Commission. Prior to this, Sushil Chandra, who was serving as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), was appointed as an EC, resigning from the CBDT before joining the Election Commission.
